We Have Arrived

Comment 1 Standard

I am tired.  We flew overnight to Belgium and now I am in my grandfather’s house in Brasschaat, outside of Antwerp.  They call it “jet lag” and I am really feeling it.  I slept a lot after we had lunch with my grandfather, aunt and cousins.

Belgian kids are not in school yet.  They start next Tuesday.

Tomorrow I have schoolwork to do to stay up with my classmates and then we go into Antwerp.  I am taking lots of photos to share with everyone on the next post.  I am thinking about making a book of photos to share at school.

This is Frederick and I am awake at 3:25am!

I am behind in my posting and will only make a brief one today since we are checking out of our hotel and then later we go to JFK Airport for our flight to Brussels.

Yesterday we took the No. 7 subway train to the US Open in Flushing Meadows, Queens. It was a long ride and we must have stopped at 15 stations along the way. Most of the train is above ground but is underground in Manhattan. We caught it at Grand Central Terminal.

At the US Open we had to wait in long lines for security. The first time they used metal detectors and it took us over a half-hour and we didn’t even have bags. We went to several matches including watching the young American Jamie Hampton win her match.

Then we went to the American Express Experience where I played tennis with other kids and did some Xbox games.

Back to the City for dinner at Daniel a very nice French restaurant with 3 Michelin stars.  My Dad says that is the ultimate award for cuisine and dining.  After dinner they gave us a tour of the kitchen. There were over 40 chefs and cooks working in 3 different areas – the Amuse Bouche – the Dinners and then – the pastries and deserts. Very neat and fast.

This is Frederick and I am enjoying New York City.

I am so busy.  We have to go to weddings and baptisms and the Apple store.  I am really tired of all the running around.  New York is supposed to be fun.

On Saturday, we went to Grand Central Terminal so we could go back to the Apple store there.  My dad bought a new iPhone five and I played Chibi Knight while he was activating his phone.  Then we went down to the concourse and ate at The Oyster Bar & Restaurant.  My Dad loves to eat clams on the half shell – Yuk!  I had chicken and fries – Yummy.

After that we went to the Art of the Bricks exhibit of spectacular sculptures and paintings using Lego bricks.  I do the same thing and create all kinds of neat things using my bricks after building the piece the way they have designed it.  On our way to the exhibit we met a Buddhist monk who was asking for money.  My dad gave him some money and the monk had my dad write down in a book what he wanted the monk to pray for – Peace.

We then went back to our hotel to get ready for the wedding which was held in The Chapel of our Lady in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  Our friend from NIgeria who is a doctor in New York and went to college with my Mom was marrying a lady from Moldova who has lived here a long time.  I got a chance to take lots of photos with my Mom’s extra camera.  I really like to do photography especially using my “sniper” long-range lens.

After the wedding we went to reception a The Water Club on the East River.

On Sunday, we had breakfast and went to the 10:15 mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  Cardinal Dolan didn’t celebrate mass as usual and that was disappointing.  We always get there early to get a main aisle seating so during the procession and recession I get a hug from the Cardinal.  He is a great man of God.

Then my dad and I went to the Apple store again because he needed some help downloading his Apps on his new iPhone.  After that we headed for S’Mac for lunch on the recommendation of Ms. Maguire my technology and computer teacher at school.  I had a “Nosh” of plain cheddar and no breadcrumbs.  They cook it and serve it in a cast-iron skillet – Yummy!

My mom had gone back to B&H to buy some new camera equipment and we met back in the hotel to get ready to go to a baptism at St. Patrick’s (again, 3 times now).  I took lots of pictures there.  After the baptism we went to the East River again for a boat trip down the East River to the Battery and then up the Hudson past Chelsea Pier.  We past the South Street Seaport and the old sailing ships there and we saw the new Freedom Tower being built where the World Trade Center had been.

Now I am back in our hotel getting ready to go to Day One of the US Open Tennis.  After that I have lots of school work to do and get ready for our flight tomorrow to Belgium.

This is Frederick and I am on a journey.

Hello World, I’m In The Big Apple!

Our flight up to New York was great.  My Dad let me sit next to a window on the right side so I could see Long Island (where I was born) as we came into the JFK airport.  We had a car waiting for us who drove through Queens and then through the Queen’s Midtown Tunnel into Manhattan.  We went under the East River.  I have now been under the Hudson River and the East River.  We are staying at the Waldorf-Astoria where we have stayed before.  It is very old and full of polished wood and brass but also very nice.  My dad had to go to the Apple Store at Grand Central Station while my Mom and I went downtown to B&H Photo but they were closed early on Friday because they are a Hasidic Jews and the store is not open on Saturday either.  Then my Mom and I decided to walk back instead of taking a taxi.  Walking back we went through Times Square and everything was crowded and fun like.  People were taking pictures and you could hear all kinds of languages.  I love the Big Apple.Image 7

We were going to meet my Dad at the Apple store but we had already gone too far up Madison Avenue so we came back to the hotel.

Tonight we are having dinner at the New York Athletic Club with our friend Arthur and his friend Mei Ling.  She is an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon.   Arthur runs the NY Waterway ferries and is nice funny man.

Tomorrow its breakfast in the hotel and then our wedding in St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the reception afterward.

We’re Leaving on a Jet Plane

Tomorrow we leave for New York City on Jet Blue out of Jacksonville. I have lots of school work to do on the plane. We then go to the Waldorf Astoria and check in. Later we are having dinner at the New York Athletic Club with our friend Arthur. He owns the NY Waterway ferry system and I am one of his “security” agents.
